CURRICULUM & INSTRUCTION

Reading

Creekside Early Learning Center (CELC) uses the 5 Pillars of Reading to support our early learners:

  • Phonemic Awareness

  • Phonics

  • Fluency

  • Vocabulary

  • Comprehension

100% of CELC teachers our trained to teach reading by using a proven, multi-sensory approach called Orton-Gillingham (OG)? We are proud to be leaders in early literacy! For more information about OG and our training visit Institute for Multi-Sensory Education.

Other curriculum used to support reading includes Wonders and Heggerty.

Mathematics

CELC adopted Bridges Mathematics in 2023 for Kindergarten (K) and Transitional Kindergarten (TK). K students also have access to supplemental online math through iReady.

STEAM

The Alpine Education Foundation (AEF) supports our STEAM Program which includes gardening, music, and robotics.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)

7 Mindsets Curriculum is utilized a minimum of one day a week by the classroom teacher. In addition, our school social worker designs and delivers customized SEL lessons to support the needs of our early learners.

Performing Arts

Our kindergarten students perform seasonal musicals that are lead by the classroom teachers.

iReady

Alpine Union School District uses i-Ready Diagnostic, an adaptive assessment, in grades K-8 to provide teachers with actionable insight into student needs. These diagnostic assessments are given 2-3 times a year in math and reading. In addition, CELC utilizes data from Orton-Gillingham (OG) assessments to inform and drive instruction.
