Gifted & Talented Education (GATE)

For more information on the GATE program, please contact the principal at your child's school.

The purpose of the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program is to provide identified students with a curriculum that stresses higher-level thinking skills, problem-solving skills, appropriate accelerated content, original approaches to task completion, independent study habits, and positive attitudes toward learning. Curriculum for students in the GATE program may differ in topic, material, depth of study, complexity or pacing.

Instruction for identified GATE students occurs within the regular classroom setting and can happen in many different ways. For example, students may be grouped according to academic need for a portion of the day, may be given alternate assignments, or may be asked to research or present on a topic to enhance their understanding. Differentiated instruction for students of all ability levels is an expectation of the Alpine Union School District.
